Tap Dance
Tap classes where dancers learn to make music with their feet, from basic sounds to more complex rhythms, with a focus on clear sounds, timing, control and musicality. Classes run for all levels, from beginners learning basic rhythms to advanced students refining footwork, and students are grouped by age and experience. Dancers wear leggings, jazz pants or fitted shorts with a leotard or fitted top, and tap shoes are required. All tap students perform in the end-of-year recital.

Tap Dance
Tap at Nielsen School of Dance is taught inside combo classes that pair it with ballet, jazz or lyrical, starting with the early-grade combos and continuing through grades 6 to 9. Students work on the poise and style of Broadway tap while executing rhythm tap beats, and progressive exercises build skill and speed.
When: The 2026-27 registration form lists tap in these school-age combos: kindergarten to 2nd grade Tuesdays 3:55 PM; 1st to 2nd grade Wednesdays 4:15 PM; 2nd to 4th grade Tuesdays 5:15 PM; 3rd to 5th grade Tuesdays 4:50 PM; 6th to 9th grade Tuesdays 6:15 to 7:30 PM.

Levels on the fall 2026 schedule are Tap IA for new beginners ages 5-8, Tap IB for ages 5-8, Tap II and Tap III, with a separate adult tap class. Dancers wear comfortable clothes they can move in (no jeans) and black tap shoes, with hair tied up and secured.
