Other classes at Ovation Dance

AcroDance - All Ages

AcroDance combines dance with acrobatics and follows the Acrobatic Arts syllabus, a progression-based program of twelve levels; Ovation is an Acrobatic Arts certified studio. Dancers start at the primary level and move up by mastering strength, flexibility, limbering, tumbling and balancing skills such as somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, round-offs, chin stands and head stands, with aerials in the advanced levels. The studio encourages acro students to take at least one hour of another technique class. Dancers wear a unitard or leotard with shorts (no tights), may dance barefoot, and bring water, a towel and warm clothes.

Ballet - Elementary (Ages 5-10)

Ballet for dancers ages 5 to 10 in Ovation's Elementary program, where classes are placed by age, experience and goals: Mini for ages 5 to 7 and Jr for ages 8 to 10. Ballet classes work on alignment, posture, core stability, classical technique and musicality, and meet once or twice a week depending on level. Dancers follow either a recreational track open to any student or a dedicated track with structured levels, placed by instructor recommendation or evaluation. Dancers wear a leotard, ballet tights and fitted ballet shoes, with hair in a bun.

Early Childhood Dance (Ages 3-5)

Ovation's Tiny Dancers classes for ages 3 to 5 focus on creative movement and introduce the basics of ballet and jazz through play. Children practice basic movements such as gentle stretches and simple dance steps through creative games, working on balance, coordination and body awareness. The classes also practice listening, following directions, taking turns and working alongside other children. Families see the schedule and register through the form on Ovation's website.

Hip Hop Dance

Hip hop classes where dancers learn foundational styles including popping, locking, breaking and freestyle, along with current moves, through age-appropriate music and choreography. Guided freestyle exercises help dancers develop their own style, and routines are high-energy. No experience is needed; classes are open to beginners through advanced dancers. Dancers wear comfortable clothing such as joggers, leggings or shorts with a T-shirt or tank top, and clean, non-marking sneakers are required. All hip hop dancers can perform in the end-of-year recital.

Jazz Dance

Jazz classes that teach turns, leaps and isolations while working on strength, flexibility, coordination and stage presence. Classes are open to all experience levels, while upper levels are for dancers with prior jazz training; placement is by skill level and age group. Dancers wear fitted dance attire such as a leotard and tights or leggings with a form-fitting top, jazz shoes are required, and hair is secured away from the face. Parents get progress reports and observation days, and dancers perform in the annual recital.

Lyrical / Contemporary Dance

Lyrical and contemporary classes that combine technique with expressive movement, where dancers learn to connect emotion to music and tell stories through choreography. Students need prior ballet and jazz experience before enrolling. Classes typically meet once a week, are grouped by age and experience, and are held on sprung floors. The dress code is tight-fitting shorts or leggings in black or studio colors, half soles (Capezio pirouettes) and hair pulled back, with no T-shirts, baggy clothing, jewelry or watches. Dancers perform in the end-of-year recital.

Middle School / High School Dance Program

Ovation's program for dancers in grades 6 to 12, both those continuing their training and those trying dance for the first time. Classes are grouped by age and experience, and placement also considers individual goals. Styles offered include ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical and contemporary, and acro, though availability and levels may vary by season. The program works on strength, coordination, technique, artistry and performance skills.

Pointe

Pointe work for ballet students who have the strength, technique and readiness for it, by instructor approval only; staff recommend each dancer individually based on readiness rather than age. Pointe is part of Ovation's ballet program, which meets once or twice a week and expects regular practice in and outside class for safe progression. Dancers wear a leotard, ballet tights and hair in a bun, and pointe shoes are required only for dancers approved for pointe. Any discomfort or pain en pointe should be reported to the instructor right away so technique and shoe fit can be checked.

Tap Dance

Tap classes where dancers learn to make music with their feet, from basic sounds to more complex rhythms, with a focus on clear sounds, timing, control and musicality. Classes run for all levels, from beginners learning basic rhythms to advanced students refining footwork, and students are grouped by age and experience. Dancers wear leggings, jazz pants or fitted shorts with a leotard or fitted top, and tap shoes are required. All tap students perform in the end-of-year recital.
