Snowboard Programs (Mini Shreds through Futures)
Offered by Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation โSVSEF's snowboard teams, grouped by age and skill. Snowboard Devo (ages 7-11) is for riders who can ride the lift and handle longer runs; Mini Shreds (ages 9-13) adds park, gates, boardercross and freeriding; the Progression Team (ages 12-16) adds Thursday riding and trick and terrain work; and the Futures Team (ages 13-18) rides four days a week and can travel to USASA and other events. South Valley Shredders (ages 6-11) is the South Valley option. Riders bring their own board, bindings, boots, helmet and goggles, and SVSEF advises against step-on bindings and directional boards.

Alpine Racing U10-U12
SVSEF's two youngest alpine racing teams. The U10 Mini World Cup Team (born 2017-2018) introduces racers moving up from Baldy Devo to technical and tactical race fundamentals through coached free skiing, gate drills and an in-house Mini World Cup race series. The U12 North Series Team (born 2015-2016) needs prior racing experience and races the IMD North Series. Both require skiing all of Baldy's terrain with confidence, and both train at a 7:1 athlete-to-coach ratio.
Alpine Racing U14-U16-FIS
SVSEF's upper alpine racing teams. The U14 IMD Team (born 2013-2014) trains five days a week in winter and races the U14 Intermountain Cup. The U16 Team (born 2011-2012) is a year-round program training six days a week in winter, with spring and summer camps at Mt. Hood and Stelvio, Italy. The FIS Team (born 2010 or earlier, at least 16) is by nomination and competes in FIS regional and national races. Each level requires completing the one below it or a program director's recommendation.
Baldy Devo - Alpine (Entry Level)
SVSEF's developmental alpine team for Baldy-based skiers born 2017 to 2020 (2017 at the coaches' discretion). It is not a learn-to-ski program: skiers must already ski Baldy top to bottom, off-piste and groomed, and know mountain safety rules. Coaches work on all-mountain skiing, jump and park skills, bumps and racing technique, and athletes stay with their group under a coach at all times. Groups run at a 6:1 athlete-to-coach ratio, with room for 60 skiers.
Big Mountain / Freeride Team
SVSEF's freeride ski and snowboard teams. The Jr Big Mountain Team (grades 6-8, ages 10-14) blends big mountain, park and natural terrain, working on line selection, technique, cliffs and natural features, and competes in at least one IFSA regional event. The Big Mountain Team (grades 9-12) trains four days a week on snow around IFSA judging criteria and mountain awareness, competes in 3 to 6 IFSA 2* and 3* events, and requires a back protector and an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. New Big Mountain athletes apply with a ski or ride resume and video by the end of June.
Cross-Country Ski - XC Comp Team
Year-round cross country ski training and racing for high school athletes, with no set ski-experience requirement. Dryland training runs through the Wood River Valley: trail running, rollerskiing, hiking, biking, strength and rollerski treadmill sessions. Winter training is mainly at the Lake Creek Training Center north of Ketchum and on the Harriman Trail, with 2 to 3 camps a year, and racing is optional. New for 2026/27, a First Year Comp group for 9th graders starts at three days a week.
Cross-Country Ski - XC Striders (Elementary)
Introductory learn-to-cross-country-ski program for South Valley elementary-age skiers at the Quigley Nordic Center, where SVSEF has a yurt for meeting and gear storage. Over seven weeks, coaches teach the basics of classic technique as a base for later cross country programs. No experience is needed, and SVSEF provides skis, boots and poles for the season; kids dress in ski clothing. Racing is optional, and the season ends with a Devo Team Festival at Lake Creek.
Freeski Program (Park & Pipe)
SVSEF's park and pipe ski teams. The Freeski Progression Team (grades 6-8) trains park, pipe, rails, jibbing and all-mountain skiing, and competes in slopestyle, big air and rail jams in the USASA Big Mountain West Series, traveling with parents. The Freeski Futures Team (born 2013 or earlier) focuses on slopestyle, big air and halfpipe, with out-of-town camps and events. Both add Air Barn sessions on air awareness and basic acrobatics, and skiers must handle all conditions and terrain.
Freestyle / Moguls Program
SVSEF's mogul skiing teams, from progression groups to a competitive travel team. The 3-Day Progression team (ages 9 to 14) and 4-Day team (12 and up) ski back bowls, trees and moguls, train on the Roundhouse mogul course, the Rotarun jump venue and terrain parks, and build air awareness on trampolines and a ramp and airbag in the Air Barn. The high school Travel Team competes in USSA Intermountain Division events, and in FIS events if qualified. Skiers must handle all of Baldy's terrain, including off-piste and moguls.
Mini X (Multi-Discipline, Grades 3-5)
SVSEF's all-mountain freestyle team for intermediate skiers ages 8 to 11, with the motto "ski it all". Training covers fundamental technique, mogul and freestyle fundamentals, terrain park skills, trick progressions in the Air Barn, big mountain line selection and mountain awareness, on Bald Mountain, Dollar Mountain and Rotarun. Skiers need previous SVSEF involvement or the ability to ski all terrain on Baldy, and the season includes the in-house Mini X Cup (mogul, slopestyle and big mountain events). Enrollment is limited to 40, at a 5:1 athlete-to-coach ratio.
Summer Dryland & Mountain Biking
SVSEF's summer programs. The Air Barn Action Sports Camp (ages 10-15, for kids on Progression, Mini X, U10 and higher teams) mixes indoor trampoline sessions on jumps, flips, grabs and body awareness with skateboarding, scootering, rollerblading and biking at the pump track and skate park; kids bring a bike, one other ride, a helmet, water and lunch. The AMP bike program (ages 9-14, up to 5 riders per group) teaches the PMBIA's six mountain bike skills in bike parks and on singletrack over two-week camps, three days a week.
Youth Ski & Snowboard Programs
The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation runs ski and snowboard teams for Wood River Valley youth, from entry-level programs for elementary-age kids to competitive teams in alpine, cross country, freestyle (moguls), freeski, big mountain and snowboard. Training takes place on Bald Mountain, Dollar Mountain and Rotarun, at the Quigley Nordic Center and Lake Creek, and in SVSEF's Air Barn. Every participant needs a U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership, and many teams also require the SVSEF/Blaine County student season pass.
