The Wood River Community YMCA's Indoor Climbing Camp is a half-day summer camp on the Y's climbing wall in Ketchum. Campers learn fundamental climbing technique, balance and movement, bouldering basics and climbing gym safety through games and challenges.

2026 sessions, Monday to Thursday: June 8-11, June 22-25, July 6-9, July 20-23 and Aug 3-6. The younger group climbs 9:00 AM to noon and ages 10-14 climb 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

$210 member / $250 non-member per week.

  • Make-up classes: No

After a program or session begins there are no refunds and no make-ups for missed classes, except in cases of hardship such as an injury. Refunds require cancelling at least one week before the program starts; if the Y cancels a program it gives a make-up session, refund or credit.

Advanced Swim Lessons (Green Level)

Advanced Swim Lessons, which the Wood River Community YMCA also calls Intro to Swim Team, are for confident swimmers. Swimmers work on improving their strokes and endurance and learn starts, turns and other swim team skills. It is the top level of the Y's youth lesson sequence, following Intermediate. After School Kids Club

Kids Club is the Wood River Community YMCA's after-school program for elementary students, run at the Y in Ketchum and at Hailey, Alturas and Bellevue elementary schools. It is led by teachers and paraprofessionals and includes homework help and reading, art projects, science experiments, team games, STEAM and social-emotional learning, plus food and exercise. To enroll, families download the registration form and return it to the Welcome Center; scholarships are available.

Beginner Swim Lessons (Red Level)

Beginner lessons at the Wood River Community YMCA are for swimmers age 5 and older who are ready to learn basic swim skills: floating, kicking, breathing and water safety. The level follows Pre-Beginner and leads into Intermediate lessons, which focus on stroke development and endurance. Register in person or by calling the Welcome Center at 208-727-9622.

Discovery Summer Camp (Ages 5-9)

Discovery Day Camp is the Wood River Community YMCA's August day camp for ages 5 to 9, focused on social-emotional learning, adventure and discovery. Full days include swimming, group games, songs, stories, environmental learning, rock climbing and reading time, with a balance of active play and quieter creative time.

Intermediate Swim Lessons (Yellow Level)

Intermediate lessons at the Wood River Community YMCA are for swimmers who have the basics and are ready to build on them. Classes focus on stroke development, breathing, endurance and water safety. The level sits between Beginner lessons and the Advanced level, which introduces swim team skills. Register in person or by calling the Welcome Center at 208-727-9622.

Iron Teen Orientation (Ages 11-15)

Iron Teen Orientation teaches youth and teens how to use the Wood River Community YMCA's strength training and cardiovascular equipment properly. Under the Y's age rules, 11- to 15-year-olds may use the Health & Wellness Center only under direct supervision by someone 16 or older unless they have completed this orientation, after which they may work out on their own. Ask a Health & Wellness staff member for the orientation schedule.

Junior Lifeguard Camp (Ages 12-15)

Junior Lifeguard Camp at the Wood River Community YMCA introduces lifeguarding, basic water safety and rescue skills, mixed with games and endurance training. Participants receive a Junior Lifeguard T-shirt and whistle, and get the chance to shadow the Y's Red Cross certified lifeguards while they are on duty. Make-A-Splash (Free - 2nd Graders)

Make-A-Splash is the Wood River Community YMCA's free learn-to-swim and water safety program for second graders, run in partnership with every school in Blaine County. Every Blaine County 2nd grader is enrolled automatically, and lessons take place during school hours. The program covers personal safety, stroke development and water rescue, with the aim of keeping children safe in and around Idaho's waterways. More than 3,100 local children had completed it by winter 2025.

Nature Explorers Summer Camp

Nature Explorers is a Wood River Community YMCA summer day camp built around outdoor adventure, science and literacy. Activities include scavenger hunts, nature hikes, river exploration and beekeeping, projects such as fairy gardens, hydroponics and vermiculture, and swimming, climbing and bike riding. Campers are placed in a younger or an older age group.

Outdoor Climbing Camp (Ages 5โ€“15): Wood River Community YMCA

Outdoor Climbing Camp takes Wood River Community YMCA climbers from the indoor wall onto real rock at Redfish Lake. Each day is led by Sawtooth Mountain Guides and covers basic climbing technique, movement on natural rock, knot tying, belaying concepts and Leave No Trace principles.

Parent & Infant Swim Lessons

A parent-and-child swim class at the Wood River Community YMCA for babies and toddlers up to age 3. A parent is in the water with the child, and the class uses activities and play to build water comfort, confidence and early swim skills. It is the first step in the Y's youth lesson sequence, ahead of Pre-Beginner lessons. Register in person or by calling the Welcome Center at 208-727-9622.

Pre-Beginner Swim Lessons

Pre-Beginner is the Wood River Community YMCA's first swim level for young children who are new to swimming. Classes cover water comfort, basic water safety, floating and kicking. In the Y's youth lesson sequence it comes after the parent-and-child class and before Beginner lessons. Register in person or by calling the Welcome Center at 208-727-9622.

Private Climbing Lessons

Private climbing lessons at the Wood River Community YMCA focus on whichever individual skills the climber wants to improve. Lessons have a maximum ratio of one instructor to four climbers and include all necessary rental equipment. They are scheduled by appointment with the Y's climbing department.

Private Swim Lessons

One-on-one swim lessons at the Wood River Community YMCA, built around each swimmer's own needs. Lessons suit swimmers who are just starting out as well as those refining their strokes, and cover water confidence, swimming skills, technique and endurance at the swimmer's own pace. Lessons are arranged directly with the Y's Aquatics Director, who sets up the schedule.

School's Out Day Camps

The Wood River Community YMCA runs two kinds of camp on Blaine County School District holidays and breaks. All-Day Out Camp, for ages 5 to 9, runs 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and mixes swimming, climbing, MakerSpace, STEAM, reading, crafts and activities in the Y's greenhouse. Adventure Day Camp, for older kids from age 9, runs 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Ketchum and focuses on swimming, climbing, sport court games, greenhouse time and play at local parks. Swordfish Swim Team (Ages 6-12)

The Swordfish Swim Team is the Wood River Community YMCA's youth swim team. Swimmers learn and refine all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly), and practices combine drills, endurance work and group challenges aimed at strength, teamwork and technique. Swimmers must be able to swim two lengths of the pool unassisted. Register by calling the Welcome Center at 208-727-9622.

YMCA All-Day Out Camp (Ages 5-9)

All-Day Out Camp is the Wood River Community YMCA's full-day camp for ages 5 to 9 on Blaine County School District days off and school breaks. Campers swim and climb, and spend the rest of the day on MakerSpace and STEAM projects, social-emotional learning, reading, crafts and environmental activities in Bonni's Garden, the Y's greenhouse. Camp runs 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Families register online or through the Welcome Center at 208-727-9622.

YMCA Youth Swimming

The Wood River Community YMCA teaches youth swim lessons in a sequence of levels: parent-and-child classes, then Pre-Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, the last of which introduces swim team skills. Lessons start with getting used to the water and progress toward competency in all strokes, with an emphasis on water safety. Sessions run on an ongoing basis in the Y's indoor pool in Ketchum. Youth Climbing Club (Ages 5-12)

The Wood River Community YMCA's Youth Climbing Club is a recreational program in which children learn to climb, tie knots and boulder on the Y's climbing wall. It meets once a week, on Tuesdays or Thursdays, in two age groups: Mini Mountaineers (ages 5-8) from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, and the older Rock Rebels group from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Families register online through the Y's climbing schedule.
