About Child Learning Resources

A free directory of kids' activities, classes, and community events β€” built community by community, with custody-aware discovery as a first-class feature.

What this site is

CLR is a community-driven directory that helps parents and caregivers find kids' classes, drop-in venues, summer camps, and family events organized community-by-community across Idaho. It's free for families to use and free for businesses to be listed.

Every program in the directory is researched by a real person, attributed to its public source, and re-verified on a rolling schedule. We don't scrape behind login walls, we don't traffic in stale data, and we don't list anything we wouldn't send our own kids to.

Why custody-friendly is built in

Most directories assume one stable schedule. For the millions of families navigating shared custody β€” every-other-weekend, alternating weeks, 2-2-3 splits β€” the same Tuesday-at-5 class can work perfectly one week and be impossible the next.

CLR makes the question part of the directory. Every business and class detail page asks other parents directly: "Does this work for a shared-custody schedule?" Their yes / sometimes / no answers (verified, never displayed with personal info) help the next family avoid the same trial and error.

See the custody-friendly landing page for ranked recommendations from real parents.

How the directory is organized

Every program belongs to one of four buckets so a parent can pick the kind of thing they're looking for in one click:

Classes

Structured, recurring instruction with enrollment β€” dance, sports lessons, martial arts, music, art, academic enrichment.

Clubs

Membership-based ongoing programs and teams β€” Boys & Girls Club, competitive teams, 4-H, scouts.

Activity Centers

Drop-in venues for fun β€” trampoline parks, climbing gyms, bowling, skate rinks, indoor play places.

Education Centers

Drop-in venues for educational outings β€” museums, libraries, observatories, nature centers, discovery centers.

Where we cover

We launched in Magic Valley (South Central Idaho) and are expanding community-by-community across Idaho. Treasure Valley (Boise / Meridian / Nampa / Caldwell) is in active research. Coeur d'Alene and Eastern Idaho follow.

Each community is gated by content quality, not just coverage. We don't enable a community in routing until it has enough verified content to be useful to the families using it. Expect us to be honest about which communities are live and which are still in progress.

How we keep the directory honest

  • Β·Verified badges with explicit criteria you can read at our verification page.
  • Β·Source citations on every researched entry so you can verify the underlying data yourself.
  • Β·Moderation queue for every user-submitted review and custody report. Nothing goes live until it's been checked.
  • Β·Last-updated timestamps on every business and program. Stale entries lose their verified badge after 60 days.
  • Β·Report a problem link on every detail page β€” low-friction feedback loop so errors get fixed fast.

What we don't do

To keep the niche tight and the trust high, we explicitly stay out of:

  • Adult education or community college courses (unrelated to kids)
  • Restaurant / dining content
  • Generic "things to do in [city]" lists
  • Booking, ticketing, or e-commerce β€” we link to the source, we don't take a cut
  • Paid placement β€” every business appears or doesn't appear based on quality, not money
